action

In this fast-paced film about horse races from around 1925, everything flies by and almost falls into a rush. Horses run, people bet, curse and scold. And it doesn't just go on for a year or two, but for a while longer. Geza Mihaly is an extremely successful jockey. How much he is under the ominous influence of the count's daughter, Comtesse Margit von Lanny, is shown when he follows her will even on his wedding night. He should bring a message to her lover. He gets into a self-defense situation and is guilty of manslaughter of the man. Not only is he being blackmailed by someone soon afterwards, but through the fault of the count's daughter, he falls off his horse so unhappily that he has to end his career as a jockey.

Geza's wife Eva, who has inherited a riding stable, encourages him to turn to a new field of activity and together with her to rebuild the inherited stud and make it profitable. In return, Geza conveys to Eva what special animals racehorses are. His commitment to the animals leads to success, but also to envious people who want to take possession of the particularly valuable animals. Ultimately, however, they can be stopped from their dirty work and an important race can be won by the couple's riding stables. Hand in hand, Eva and Geza have taken an important step towards their future together.

criticism

Paimann's film lists found that the subject "turned out to be a bit complicated due to the many intricacies of the plot" and that this "would not always be completely resolved". The “tempo furioso of the direction” compensates for what is “surpassed” by the editing. It also said: “The drawing of the milieu and the presentation are very pretty, you also get to see beautiful cityscapes and racing scenes. The representation is entirely appropriate, the photography good. "
