action

Millionaire Jan Derriksen, who had amassed his fortune by exploiting oil wells, is suddenly impoverished after a major fire destroyed his oil fields. Then he has to start all over again and takes a job as a chauffeur “Mr. Smith ”to the industrialist Reginald Prittspitt. He immediately falls in love with his handsome daughter Bicky. This is extremely displeasing to the envious Baron Suedar, as he himself has his eyes on the young lady. But his interest in the millionaire's daughter is of a purely pecuniary nature, the aristocrat is an outright dowry hunter. In his envy of competition, Suedar researches the past life of the ominous “Mr. Smith ”to be able to mend him on the witness. He boldly claims that Smith is only after Bicky's money, simply assuming that he has his own shabby motives. Because the Baron sows suspicion, Bicky also has his first doubts as to whether Jan is really serious about her.

In the meantime, Derriksen has learned that someone is now trying to buy up the shares in his ailing oil company, obviously because large deposits of saltpeter have been discovered there. With that, the impoverished millionaire soon becomes a real one again, which makes things much easier for Herz Bickys, because he can't be after her money. During a boat accident, Baron Suedar finally shows his true colors, because he thinks of himself first and does not help anyone else. Now Bicky Prittspitt also realizes a lot, and the lady is only just beginning to get to know her chauffeur properly and realizes that only he can be the right one for her.
