Charlotte Ander
Charlotte Ander , born in Charlotte Andersch (born August 14, 1902 in Berlin ; † August 5, 1969 there ), was a German actress of the silent and early talkies era.
Life
Charlotte Andersch was born in Berlin as the daughter of the actor couple Rudolf Andersch and Ida Perry . After completing her training at the Berlin State Theater, her first engagements followed in operettas and, from 1920, roles at several Berlin theaters. Ander started her film career in 1920 with the films "The Last Hour" and "Danton" (1921). Countless leading roles in silent films and early sound films with big screen sizes such as Emil Jannings , Marlene Dietrich and Hans Albers followed.
Ander celebrated her greatest success in 1933 with the role of the record seller Nina in the music film “ A Song Goes Around the World ” alongside the then famous singer Joseph Schmidt and her mother Ida Perry. The year 1933 marked something of a turning point in her career as an actress. Considered not “thoroughbred” by the Nazis, she was drawn to England for a short time, where she stood in front of the camera for two film projects. After no job offers in England were offered, Ander returned to Germany, despite difficult conditions, where she was only allowed to work to a limited extent. Even an opportunistic entry into the NSDAP since May 2, 1933 had no effect on her.
After the end of the war, Charlotte Ander worked again as an actress at the theater in Baden-Baden and Berlin. She only resumed her film work in 1950 with the DEFA film Benthin family .
