Theodor Steiner

Theodor Steiner (born March 5, 1905 in Berlin , † June 3, 1970 in Vienna ) was a German radio play director .

Life

Theodor Steiner was the son of Jewish parents, Géza and Anna Steiner, who came from Hungary and lived in Berlin. He studied singing at the Berlin State University of Music with Prof. Oskar Daniel and at the end of 1927, together with Harry Frommermann, became the intellectual creator and founder of the Melody Makers, the later Comedian Harmonists . However, he resigned in May 1928 and found engagements as a singer (baritone) in Königsberg and Hamburg, where he continued to work until 1934, when he then emigrated to St. Gallen in Switzerland . In 1946 he returned and got a chance as a guest director at Radio Frankfurt.

He staged various radio plays, in particular The Last Days of Mankind (author: Karl Kraus ) in the adaptation of Stephan Hermlin (production: Radio Frankfurt, 1947) and was directly appointed senior director and head of the radio play department and later for training. He also performed magic on the transmitter for the remake of the first German radio play . Attempt at a broadcast game grotesque direction. The piece was written in 1924 by the artistic director of the Südwestdeutsche Rundfunkdienst AG in Frankfurt and later director of the Berlin radio hour, Hans Flesch , and was re-produced in 1962 under Steiner's direction at the Hessischer Rundfunk .

In the Hessian Radio recorded in 1965 TV movie Dr. Murke's collected obituaries after Heinrich Böll , Steiner made a brief appearance.

In 1950 Steiner joined the Masonic lodge "Socrates for steadfastness" in Frankfurt. In late 1966 he suffered a heart attack .

Theodor Steiner died on June 3, 1970 in Vienna.
