Moriturus is a German silent crime film drama from 1920. Max Landa plays the leading role , as so often in his screen career, as a detective. Further leading roles were cast with Reinhold Schünzel (in the title role), Conrad Veidt (as villain) and Hilde Wörner , who also produced this film.

action

Private detective Landa is facing a particularly tricky case: the respected Freiherr von Mohrungen has been suffering from a strange illness for some time, which his family doctor Dr. Shepherd is a big headache. Since the doctor doesn't know what to do next, he sends his aristocratic patient to the detective, who might be able to investigate the mysterious disease in a criminalistic way and with his own methods.

Landa's research leads after a few detours to the opaque and unscrupulous Wilmos, the head of a sanatorium. It turns out that he had massively manipulated the somewhat naive chambermaid Siegnis, so that the maid successively administered morphine to the baron so that the landlord gradually became weaker and weaker and weaker. Wilmos' plan is that his sister wife von Riberac, Herr von Liebenau, the cousin and presumed heir of the doomed man (= Moriturus), marries on day X and in this way Wilmos comes into the inheritance of Mohrungen, which his sinister machinations have carried into the afterlife. Detective Landa can, however, thwart the outrage and arrest the villain.
