Max Landa (actually: Max Landau ; born April 24, 1873 in Minsk , Russian Empire ; † November 9, 1933 in Bled , Yugoslavia ) was an Austrian stage and silent film actor .

Life

Landa received his acting training from Karl Arnau . He made his debut at various traveling stages in 1899, then went to Hanover , from where he was hired to the German Theater in Berlin and finally, as the first hero and lover, to the Breslau Theater , where he also directed the summer theater. Most recently he played at various Berlin theaters, including the Lessing Theater , the German Art Theater and the Small Theater (on the Berlin Southwest Parade).

He began his career as a film actor in 1911. In 1913 he acted in The Suffragette at the side of Asta Nielsen , his discoverer for the silent film, and then shot another six films with her under the direction of Urban Gad . 1915/16 he was seen under Joe May in the title role of his Joe Deebs series , a popular detective series.

Ewald André Dupont shot a Max Landa series in 1918/19 with a total of 12 films. In 1921 Max Landa stood in front of the camera again with Asta Nielsen for Die Geliebte Roswolskys , in 1928 he had his last film appearance.

From 1921 until the end of the silent film era, Landa also worked as a freelance film producer.

Landa fled after the takeover of the Nazis in 1933 from the German Reich. On November 9, 1933, Max Landa, a victim of the changed circumstances , committed suicide.

Max Landa was married to the actress Margot Walter from 1927 to 1929 .
