Earl Lordion Chamberley is an old, frail, and ailing man. In return for an annuity, he bequeaths all of his possessions to the charity association. Strangely enough, the old nobleman simply does not want to die, and after ten years it becomes too colorful for the club and the detective Holmes is hired to investigate this mysterious matter.

He goes on the trail and discovers something fantastic: Chamberley's servant William Voss wanted to get into possession of his master’s fortune. And so he first built a prosthesis and finally a whole person - Count Chamberley - who finally concealed the death of his master and replaced the dead Count as a mechanical doll. Detective Holmes exposes the swindler and ends the spook.

Production notes

William Voss , sometimes also William Voss and with the subtitle: The Million Thief named, was filmed at the end of 1915. The film was originally three, later (when the new censorship in October 1921) was four acts, based on an idea by Ladislaus Turszinsky , first censored in December 1915 and premiered on January 6, 1916. William Voss could be seen in Vienna from March 31, 1916.
