The unemployed actor Lionel Evans has seen better days. Now he sees light at the end of the tunnel, because his friend, the journalist Kelly, advises him of the position of editor-in-chief of the new newspaper "The Sensation", in which he recommends Lionel to the wealthy owner of the paper, James Torrington.

But under Evans' leadership, the paper did not make it into the black, it was selling too poorly. And so a sensation is really needed.
