Crows Fly Around the Tower is a 1917 crime film in the Joe Deebs film series .
action
The mushroom grower Finster is hired by a stranger, a certain Mr. Smit, as secretary. A few days the grower noticed that someone had broken into his cellar and destroyed the mushroom beds. Finster hires Joe Deebs to track down the perpetrator. The central track leads the master detective to Professor Robert Kalton, who is currently developing a serum.
The resolution of the case has a remarkable history. That Kalton had surprised his cousin some time ago when he stole a letter and then believed he had killed him. In order to avoid police investigations and a possible arrest, Kalton has since used a connecting passage that existed between Finsters' cellar and his villa with a tower. Only the crows circling the tower bring Deebs on the trail of the missing cousin. He is actually dead, but was only anesthetized by Kalton and later hit his skull in a fall.

criticism
“In terms of content, of the qualities of those films that work with trap doors, underground passages and ingredients, that know how to weave the mysterious magic around the infallibility of the detective and that through all of this know how to achieve a tension that lasts until the crime is uncovered. Or like here, until the suspicion is taken from a wrongly accused. "
