William Kahn (director)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Kahn , born Wilhelm Kahn (born May 25, 1888 in Berlin , † in the period from 1941 to 1943 in Minsk ) was a German film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

William Kahn had already emerged as a detective novelist when he began writing film scripts in 1912. He also specialized in crime stories here, here about the detective Joe Deebs , played by Max Landa and directed by Joe May .

In 1916 he developed his own detective figure with Council Arnheim. He staged and produced Arnheim's adventures himself with his William-Kahn-Film GmbH. After the First World War he switched to film dramas and melodramas with less success .

During the time of National Socialism , the Kahn, classified as a “ full Jew ”, was ousted from public life. On November 14, 1941, he was transferred to the Minsk ghetto , where in all likelihood he was killed. He must not be confused with the American actor William 'Smitty' Kahn (1882-1959).
