The Caucasian is a 1917 German crime film from the Joe Deebs film series with Max Landa in the title role.
action
One day, detective Joe Deebs meets Helene, the wife of the engineer Mertens. A little later, Deebs can intervene in their favor when he prevents their precious jewelry from being stolen. Soon afterwards he is a guest in Prince Sumalo's house. There, the nose not only exposes a cardsharp, but also discovers a portrait of a lady who looks very similar to Helene Mertens. When he asked, the prince replied that the woman depicted was his bride at the time, but who has since died. The portrait and the prince's story can not go away from the gentleman detective, and Deebs continues to investigate the matter.
Joe Deebs finds out that the depicted bride, a Caucasian, only apparently died, as the prince still firmly believes to this day. Rather, once a servant of the prince had given her a sleeping pill that made a person appear dead in order to escape from the princely clutches. Then the Caucasian woman was buried in the princely crypt, a little later, after awakening, but immediately freed. Back among the living, the Caucasian woman and her helper had subsequently married. Deebs decides to keep this secret from the Caucasian woman, as Mr. and Mrs. Mertens are a very happy couple.
