action

Count Hans Rochus von Friedeneck bets his Uruguayan friend Señor Heidegg for a million crowns that he will be able to support himself for a year without outside help. Friedeneck's friends advise against this bet, as losing this large sum would ruin him. But he replies only laconically that, according to a family curse, all men would die after they turn 30, and that would be the case for him in two years. Rochus gets to know and love the beautiful, young Ellen Carena and now thinks that he can combine the pleasant with the useful by serving as her chauffeur "Hans Braun". So he always has her around and can work on his own. Since Ellen is looking for her ancestral castle, the new driver drives her and her companion Tina to Carinthia , where the old walls are suspected. Soon Ellen is very impressed by the skill and general knowledge of her chauffeur. She cannot believe that an ordinary "Hans Braun" has this experience and urges her driver to reveal the real self. But Count Rochus does not want to lose his bet and is stonewalling. Soon the small tour company actually found the ancestral castle of the Carenas.

In the meantime, Señor Heidegg, actually an uncle of Ellen's, has not remained inactive. Since, like Count Rochus, he absolutely wants to win the bet, he has instructed the detective Teddy Rakuso to do everything possible so that the count's betting partner does not win. Despite all attempts to throw sand in Friedeneck's gears, the noble chauffeur lasted the whole year and is now a rich man. Although Ellen has actually been promised to someone else, she confesses her love to her fake chauffeur. The year is over and Friedeneck explains everything to Ellen about the bet and his stamina. Heidegg pays the million that would have been the dowry for niece Ellen anyway. With the upcoming marriage of Rochus to her, oh wonder, the family curse against the Friedenecks, which the ancestors of Ellen's ancestors had once cast, is suddenly lifted, and Count Hans will be able to enjoy a long life.
