Mathieu Oosterman

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mathieu Andreas Cornelis Oosterman , often mistakenly written Oostermann (born June 18, 1878 in Breda , Netherlands , † in the 20th century) was a set designer of Dutch origin for German film.

Life

From 1899 Oosterman received training as a painter at the Reich Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam . At the turn of the century he was active as a painter for the first time. Later Oosterman also worked as an interior designer. Active in film since the First World War , he was particularly busy in German silent films during the Weimar Republic . There he realized drafts for less important entertainment films, but was also occasionally responsible for the decorative paintings. Osterman provided his last silent film architecture for the last German silent film ever: The Road to Death on the Bernina (1931).

In the sound film one hardly needed his cooperation anymore, and Oosterman mostly had to be content with secondary tasks as an auxiliary architect - mostly in the service of the UFA . Hands up on the tendentious B production ! The Dutchman was allowed to design buildings again in autumn 1941 as chief architect. After that his track is lost.
