Witches - desecrated and tortured to death is a German-produced horror film that Adrian Hoven himself directed and financed in 1972. It first ran in cinemas on January 26, 1973.

action

In a German state, 1780. The witch hunter Balthasar von Ross lets the people feel his hard hand; he rules according to desire and sudden mood, uses his position to enrich himself and at the same time also make young women sexually compliant. He had his opponents thrown into dungeon and later burned them at the stake after negotiating and torturing them with extorted confessions and falsified evidence. When the highly respected Alexander von Salmenau, whom Ross proclaimed a sorcerer, his wife Elisabeth a witch and had both sons excommunicated, also ended in this way, a jailer helped the imprisoned to escape. Elisabeth succeeds in inciting the people against the increasingly brazen burns and crimes committed by Ross. Eventually his residence is stormed, his people and himself are killed.

criticism

Adrian Hoven tried “this time personally to realize this plagiarism of plagiarism. In vain, because the (...) brew from his quick witch kitchen is not more enjoyable - but it is even more hideous, unimaginative and exploitative, ”says Ronald M. Hahn . The lexicon of international films also wrote very negatively: “A dilettante witch hunter's infusion, which laboriously dragged itself from one torture or rape scene to another. In between, a bit of a bit of 'romance' is provided. "

background

The film music, which comes from the archive of the music publisher Sonoton , consists of compositions by Don Banks , John Scott , Eddie Warner and Tony Tape .

This was the last film commission for the film architect Max Mellin , who had designed the buildings for Hoven's previous film Hexen Tormented to the Blood .

reception

The film science conference “ Mark of the Devil : On a Classic Exploitation Film” of the University of Vienna took place from April 3rd to 5th, 2014 , which dealt with witches tortured to the blood and witches - violated and tortured to death . The conference produced a special edition of the British Cine-Excess eJournal (2017), which contains a number of detailed articles on both films (including on authorship, voyeurism and censorship) as well as an interview with Joyce and Percy Hoven.
