Inge Krafft's Path of Sorrows is a German film drama from 1921 based on an idea by Thea von Harbou .

Ingeborg Krafft, who is thrown out of the house one day by her husband, a Caucasian lord of the castle, then wants to go to the monastery. But she meets her childhood sweetheart, the researcher Hendryk Overland. He promises to marry her as soon as he is back from an expedition to New Zealand. Meanwhile Ingeborg is waiting with Dagmar Overland, Hendryk's sister. One day the women received a message that Hendryk and all research participants had been killed by wild animals during their expedition. Dagmar's child dies the same day. Dagmar is supposedly incurably insane and is sent to an institution. Harry, Dagmar's husband, is divorcing her over this. Now Ingeborg and Harry fall in love. On the day after the two of them married, Hendryk, who was believed dead, suddenly appears. Dagmar gets well at the sight of him. Desperate Ingeborg wants to run away, but Harry prevents this. Then she chooses suicide by jumping out of the window.
