Harry Frank

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harry Frank , born in Ludwig Theodor Hellmuth Franck (born October 15, 1896 in Berlin ; † December 12, 1947 there ) was a German actor .

Life

Growing up in Lübeck , he first worked as a servant, salesman, magician, cabin boy and ship cook. He took part in the First World War as an officer for the most part in Turkey. He then became the editor of a provincial newspaper and tried his hand at advertising advertising, real estate agent and correspondent for English and French in Berlin.

After all, he stood in front of film cameras as an actor, initially as a supporting actor, later also in leading roles. His profession was mainly crime novels and comedies, where he embodied smart, agile characters. Until 1936 he was seen in several films every year.

After that, his popularity waned significantly and Frank now concentrated on his work on the Berlin stages, especially on the Small Theater in the Renaissance Theater . His last film assignment was in 1946 at DEFA in the crime film Razzia , where he played the bar owner Goll, a criminal in post-war Berlin.

Remarks

  1. According to Kay Less : The film's great lexicon of people is another Harry Frank who appeared in various films from 1919 to 1922, including Fritz Lang . IMDb, Filmportal.de and others, on the other hand, only know one actor by this name. Harry Frank contributed a résumé to the "Filmwoche" article in which he himself mentions his early beginnings in film.
  2. The film was made in 1930, see shooting report in Mein Film, No. 250, p. 9, and should also be released in cinemas that year. The film program Illustrierter Film-Kurier No. 1503 was already printed when lengthy legal disputes arose (for details see Liddy Hegewald ). There is a censorship clearance from 1932 (B.30842, January 14, 1932, youth ban. Source: filmportal.de), but so far there is no evidence that the film was actually shown in Germany.
