Adolf Klein (born August 15, 1847 on the Wieden near Vienna ; † March 11, 1931 in Berlin ) was an Austrian actor and theater director.

Life

Despite his father's resistance, Adolf Klein attended the Vienna Conservatory and made his debut in Baden near Vienna in 1865 . During the years of his development as an actor, an unsteady wandering life led him to Bucharest . In 1871 Klein received an engagement at the Nationaltheater Berlin , in 1872 he played in Königsberg , 1873 to 1876 in Leipzig and from 1876 to 1880 after a successful guest appearance as Mephistopheles and Wallenstein (Schiller) at the Hoftheater Berlin.

From there, Franz von Dingelstedt appointed him to the Burgtheater as a character actor . He also worked at the Hamburg Thalia-Theater from 1884 to 1885 , from 1885 to 1886 in Moscow , from 1886 to 1889 at the Court Theater in Dresden , then again in Berlin at the Court Theater, the Lessing Theater and the New Playhouse . From 1910 Klein headed the German Theater in Łódź . Klein was married to the Berlin court theater actress Jenny Frauenthal .

Act

The virtuoso, versatile actor Klein appeared at the Düsseldorf Goethe Festival and in numerous guest performances that took him to London . Adolf Klein played in leading roles, among others, Franz Moor , the Wurm , the Duke of Alba , King Lear , Nathan the Wise , the perjurer , Iago and Shylock . In the film he could be seen in Ernst Lubitsch's Anna Boleyn in 1920 .
