Lulu is a German silent film drama from 1917 with Erna Morena , Harry Liedtke and Emil Jannings in the leading roles, based on models by Frank Wedekind .
action
The circus dancer Lulu is a free-spirited being through and through. Although she loves her former savior, the clown Alfredo, she begins a relationship with the noble Henri von Reithofen. When he kills himself because he was completely in debt due to the horrendous expenses for Lulu, she immediately catches the next rich patron, the much older Baron Waldheim. The latter's son knows Lulu and warns his father that she will also bring misery to him. Waldheim succumbs to Lulu's whispering and then casts his son out.
One day, during a party, Baron Waldheim sees Alfredo, Lulu's former lover, and his ex-flame crouching together, and jealousy overcomes him. The baron thinks he has caught them both red-handed; a heated argument ensues, and the excitement causes Waldheim to collapse dead. Waldheim's son now comes into possession of his father's inheritance and throws Lulu out of the house. Left alone by (almost) everyone, she finally decides to marry Alfredo. Lulu dies after only a year.
