Sturmflut is a German silent film drama from 1927 by Willy Reiber with Dorothea Wieck and Oskar Marion in the leading roles.

action

Andrej Michaelowitsch wants to flee from post-revolutionary Russia with his bride and childhood friend Wera across the border to the west, but loses them on the way there. After Andrej is safe, he comes to a village where the deep-sea researcher Dr. Swen Larsen lives with his daughter Karen. The young woman is engaged to her childhood friend Nils Sörren, and both are planning to get married soon. Helmsman Nils is currently doing his job and is currently on the high seas. Andrei immediately falls in love with the beautiful young woman.

When Nils returns home, the two of them end up on the same ship by all sorts of coincidences and with it into a heavy sea. The ship capsizes during the eponymous storm surge, and both men save each other from drowning. You can swim ashore and return to the Larsen's house, where they are eagerly awaited. Soon Wera also arrives there, who was also able to cross the border. Karen returns to her Nils, and Andrej reunites with his Wera.

Production notes

Storm surge , sometimes with the subtitle fate of man, like you are provided with the sea , was made in August and September 1927 in the Geiselgasteig film studios (Munich) and was censored on September 15, 1927. The film was 2478 meters long , divided into six acts. The film was released for young people and was given the title “artistic” by the Munich film censors. The premiere took place in two Berlin cinemas on September 29, 1927.

Ludwig Reiber , the younger brother of the director Willy Reiber, designed the film structures.

criticism

In the Austrian film newspaper it was said: "The success of the film is not based on the manuscript, which is not exactly rich in ideas, but on the brisk, rousing direction".
