Fred Roll is a two-part, Austrian silent film that was shot by Ernst Marischka in Vienna in 1917 . Louis Ralph played the title role of the master thief .
action
As a thief, Fred Roll is a master of his trade. He wrote a letter to Count Wendburg in which he asked him to transfer the considerable sum of 100,000 kroner to the “hoard of single mothers”. Otherwise he, Roll, will rob him for twice the amount. Roll's name in public is different. As Count Fellward, he enjoys a great reputation in the haute volee. When he met Countess Wendburg on the social floor, she was very impressed by the elegant nobleman with the polished manners. Fellward alias Roll then received an invitation to the upcoming Wendburg garden party.
On site in Fellward, Fred Roll immediately breaks through again, and as the same he robs Countess Wendburg of a valuable piece of jewelry. But he does not take the treasure with him, but hides it, attached to a window curtain. Then Roll wrote another letter by reminding Wendburg of his first blackmail. He assumes that the disappearance of the piece of jewelery has meanwhile been noticed and is putting Wendburg under further pressure by claiming that he will now also seize this valuable jewel forever. Since there was no reaction, Roll returned to Palais Wendburg at midnight to finally take the piece of jewelry from the curtain. He is surprised by the countess. The detective Paul Hardt, who had been called in by the Wendburgs some time before, clings to Roll's heels when he tries to escape in a daring manner. Eventually, Roll is caught and arrested.
