Monika Lennartz (born February 26, 1938 in Stettin ) is a German actress .

Life

Lennartz grew up in Waltershausen in Thuringia and passed the entrance exams at drama schools in both Leipzig and Berlin . Since there were no more places to study, she went to the Potsdam Film School in 1956 , where she completed her training until 1959.

The first stage stops were Potsdam and Senftenberg . There she portrayed Anne Frank , among others . In 1962 she came to Berlin at the Maxim Gorki Theater . Here she made her debut in Lajos Mesterhazy's play The Eleventh Commandment .

In October 1964 she was seen in her most important role up to then as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet alongside Klaus Manchen under the direction of Fritz Bornemann at the Volksbühne Berlin . But it was not until 1965, in Viktor Rosow's On Wedding Day, that her acting performance received undivided praise.

Other important roles were each Olga, in the drama Three Sisters by Chekhov , as well as in the continuation The Transitional Society by Volker Braun , both in productions by Thomas Langhoff . From the beginning, Lennartz also often worked in film and television. Since 2007 she can be seen in the series In allerfreund as Luise Brenner.

In 1982 she received the Goethe Prize from the City of Berlin . At the 3rd National Feature Film Festival of the GDR in 1984 she was honored as the best supporting actress for her portrayal of Mrs. Meinelt in Insel der Schwäne together with Simone von Zglinicki . The short film Girls' Evening , in which Lennartz played alongside Ursula Werner , was awarded the Max Ophüls Short Film Prize 2012 .
