criticism

Horst Knietzsch criticized the staging rather than the topic in 1959 in the film mirror :

“The heroes of the film do their job well, because they are much more children of our republic than they admit to themselves… Unfortunately, the artistic implementation of the material by the director was not always successful. There are all sorts of technical impurities, the most disturbing is the theatrical staging style, which has nothing to do with modern film direction ... Balhaus has remained a man of the theater ... "
