Kurt, Hannes and Anke work together as apprentices in a fish combine in Saßnitz. Surprisingly, Laue heads for the Danish island of Bornholm with the cutter SAS 181 under a pretext . Kurt and Hannes shadow Laue in a bar and learn that Laue and the deckhand are leaving the GDR and want to sell the cutter abroad. With the help of the Danish police and Jens', the boys are able to prevent the boat from being handed over to a buyer, but they have to take the boat back to Saßnitz on a stormy crossing, while Laue remains on Bornholm.

SAS 181 does not answer was filmed from 1958 under the working title SOS mission for Ilona . Rosemarie Wandelt created the costumes, Alfred Hirschmeier designed the film . Adolf Fischer was in charge of production , while Roland Dressel acted as camera assistant. The film had its premiere on July 3, 1959 in the Berlin Colosseum .
criticism
Horst Knietzsch criticized the staging rather than the topic in 1959 in the film mirror :
“The heroes of the film do their job well, because they are much more children of our republic than they admit to themselves… Unfortunately, the artistic implementation of the material by the director was not always successful. There are all sorts of technical impurities, the most disturbing is the theatrical staging style, which has nothing to do with modern film direction ... Balhaus has remained a man of the theater ... "
