Elliott Gould
Elliott Gould , actually Elliott Goldstein (born August 29, 1938 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American film actor .
Life
Elliott Gould grew up in a Jewish family in Brooklyn. As a child he played on vaudeville stages and on television. After his time in college, he made his Broadway debut in the musical Rumple in 1956 . This was followed by other smaller musical roles - such as in Irma La Douce .
He took acting lessons at the Actors Studio , where he met Barbra Streisand . Both were married from 1963 to 1971 and have a son, Jason Gould (* 1966). With Streisand he appeared from 1962 in the musical I Can Get It For You Wholesale , with which both then toured the Broadway performances in America and England. Then he went on tour with Liza Minnelli and the musical The Fantastics .
In 1964 Gould played his first leading role in the movie Marry Me, Crooks! together with Ginger Rogers . Only three years later he became a star through his role as Billy Minsky, owner of the burlesque show, in the film The Night When Minsky Was Discovered . Gould received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his appearance in the comedy Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice as a rather stuffy husband who is brought to sexual openness by a couple of friends . He had his greatest international success in 1970 with his role as "Trapper John" in the film MASH , directed by Robert Altman .
In 1973 he played again under the direction of Robert Altman in Death Knows No Return . He played Philip Marlowe , a role that Humphrey Bogart originally played in Dead Sleeping . Critics were divided over Gould's account. In total, Gould worked on five films with Robert Altman between 1970 and 1992.
From the 1980s onwards, things became quieter for Elliott Gould. He had his most famous appearances in the television series Friends and in the films Ocean's Eleven , Ocean's 12 and Ocean's 13 . From 2013 to 2016 he played as a supporting actor in the American television series Ray Donovan . In 2014 he was seen in a leading role in the Canadian comedy series Sensitive Skin alongside Kim Cattrall . Other film and television appearances followed, including a role in Ocean's 8 (2018). His work includes more than 180 film and television productions so far.
After his divorce from Barbara Streisand, Gould was married from 1974 to 1976 and again from 1978 to 1979 to Jennifer Bogart, with whom he has two other children.
