Kim Victoria Cattrall (/ kəˈtræl ​​/; born August 21, 1956 in Liverpool , England ) is a Canadian - British actress , best known as Samantha Jones from the series Sex and the City , who won a Golden Globe Award and two screen actors Guild Awards .

life and career

When Kim Cattrall was three months old, her parents immigrated to Canada with her. She returned to England at the age of eleven and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art . Back in Vancouver , Cattrall graduated from high school and received a scholarship to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City . In her senior year she got her first film role in Otto Preminger's company Rosebud (1975). She then returned to Canada and played mainly in Vancouver and Toronto theater. This was followed by a guest role in the television series Columbo (Murder by Phone) .

Kim Cattrall was married three times: Her 1977 marriage to Larry Davis was annulled in 1979. She was married to her second husband, the architect Andre J. Lyson, from 1982 to 1989. She lived with him for several years in Frankfurt am Main , which is why she also speaks German . Her third marriage to hi-fi amplifier developer Mark Levinson lasted from 1998 to 2004.

Between 1975 and 1998, Cattrall made numerous appearances in television series and films, of which her role in the first part of the Police Academy film series is one of the most famous. From 1998 she became known to a wide audience as Samantha Jones in the television series Sex and the City .

At the end of November 2008, Cattrall - along with other prominent women - was portrayed with a bare chest by photographer Tom Hunter for a rescue operation of the painting " Diana and Acteon " by Titian in order to prevent the painting from being sold to a private collection and to the public is no longer accessible.

In 2009, Cattrall received a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto .
