Sydney Chaplin (actor, 1926)
Sydney Earle Chaplin (born March 30, 1926 in Los Angeles , California - March 3, 2009 in Rancho Mirage , California) was an American actor .
Life
The second son of the actor couple Charles Chaplin and Lita Gray started an acting career like his father after serious school problems due to lack of discipline and military service in the US Army. Beside and under the direction of his father, he played a young composer in the film Rampenlicht . This debut was followed by numerous appearances in film and television productions. He had another appearance in a film by his father in 1967 in The Countess of Hong Kong , in which he played the lawyer and confidante of Marlon Brando's main character.
Sydney Chaplin also appeared on Broadway and won the 1957 Tony Award for appearing alongside Judy Holliday in the comedy Bells Are Ringing . In 1964, the actor alongside Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl was nominated for another Tony. After 1977 he retired from acting. From the 1980s he was the owner of the restaurant "Chaplin's" in Palm Springs , California.
Sydney Chaplin was married three times, most recently to Margaret Beebe since 1998 , and had one son. In the 1950s, the actor caused a stir because of his affair with actress Kay Kendall .
