Kay Kendall

Kay Kendall (born May 21, 1927 in Withernsea , East Riding of Yorkshire , England , † September 6, 1959 in London ; born Justine Kay Kendall McCarthy ) was a British actress .

Kay Kendall comes from an actor dynasty and performed in ballet at the age of eight. She started her career at the London Palladium . She later formed a show number with her sister.

She made her film debut in 1943, but it was not until the early 1950s that she was able to assert herself as an actress with films such as Die fierige Isabella and Aber, Herr Doktor . 1956 Kay Kendall accepted an offer from Hollywood and played in Les Girls , directed by George Cukor alongside Gene Kelly . For the role in this film, she and her film colleague Taina Elg received the Golden Globe Award in 1958 . She played her last role alongside Yul Brynner in 1959 in Once again with emotion .

Kay Kendall was married to actor Rex Harrison , who had previously been married to Lilli Palmer , from 1957 until her death . Her siblings are the actors Cavan Kendall and Kim Campbell. She died of leukemia . She was buried in the churchyard of St John-at-Hampstead in the London borough of Hampstead
