history
The castle was built around 1300. It was first mentioned in a document in 1359. Rötger von Neuhoff is considered to be the builder . A lightning strike burned the castle down in 1797, except for the remains of a round tower and a vaulted cellar . At the beginning of the 19th century a farm that is still inhabited today was built on the former castle grounds. The Alt Pungelscheid street now leads past it through the former castle grounds. In addition to the old smithy monument , there is also a historic oat box . Up until the end of the 20th century, there was also a gastronomic business, on whose now privately used grounds there is still an old castle fountain . Above-ground remains of the actual castle are no longer recognizable on the entire site.
