With Lennegebirge is commonly the at the Homert 656.1  m above sea level. NHN high, right (= east) of the eponymous Lenne at Finnentrop - Rönkhausen preferred part of the ebb and Homert threshold in Sauerland Südsauerländer mountains designated, the western part of the with a maximum of 662.7  m height minimally higher Ebbegebirge represents.

In synonymous meaning, the low mountain range is sometimes referred to as Homertrücken , whereby the natural area of the latter name only describes the larger part of the mountain range, which would have to be supplemented by the north-eastern foothills of the Grevenstein Mountains , which extend as far as the Hennesee .

Occasionally, under Lenne Mountains or Lenneberg country also adopted an even greater landscape, such as the northwest and large parts of the Iserlohn height -containing and on the long southeastern flank until well into the Sauerland valleys reaching Homert Nature Park .

geography

location

The Lennegebirge is located in the Sauerland in the Märkisches Kreis , in the Olpe and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . It connects east to northeast to the valley of the central reaches of the Lenne between Finnentrop in the southwest and Plettenberg - Eiringhausen in the northwest. To the northeast it extends in a narrowing strip to the Hennesee before Meschede , in the east further to before Eslohe .

In the interior of the mountains, in the Esloher area, are Haus Blessenohl and the Mesched district of Grevenstein in the northeast. On Sundern city are added Meinkenbracht (northeast of the center), the southern sub-districts Endorfs (north of the center) Wildewiese (west of the center) and Hagen (northwest). In addition, there are Schliprüthen , Weuspert and Wörden in the southern part of Finnentrops . The north-west of the mountain range in the Neuenrades area is uninhabited.

Adjacent mountain ranges

The Lennegebirge is the east-northeast continuation of the up to 662.7  m high Ebbegebirge , from which it is separated by the Rönkhauser Lennetal der Lenne, which is deeply cut at this point . To the south. It is surrounded to the east and north by the Sauerland depressions , which it is surrounded by the Saalhauser Mountains (up to 688.5  m ) in the southeast, the Rothaar Mountains (up to 843.2  m ) in the east and the partial mountain ranges of the North Sauerland Oberland (up to 581.5  m ) separate in the north. To the northwest it is separated from the Iserlohner Höhe (up to 545.9  m ) by the depressions and the Neuenrader Hochflur adjoining it to the east as part of the Lüdenscheider Mulde .

Natural structure

The Lennegebirge is structured as follows (for better orientation some places and bodies of water are linked below):

The central ridge is the Wildewiese-Homert , which stretches from the Lennetal eastward to the Wenne near Wenholthausen . Its southern flank is bounded in the east by the left Wenne tributary Salwey and in the west by the right Lenne tributary Falbecke and the lower basin of the Rönkhausen pumped storage plant .

Between the two valleys lies the corridor to the southern foothills of Schliprüther Homert , which extends south to just before the right-hand Lenne tributary Fretterbach , and in the east right up to the right-hand Salwey tributary Marpe .

In the northeast of the Wildewiese-Homert runs from Meinkenbracht to the Wenne, the Meinkenbracht Ausraummulde , which separates the Grevenstein Mountains to the north , into which the Wildewiese-Homert merges almost smoothly to the west of Meinkenbach. The Grevenstein Mountains also stretch east of the Wenne as a narrow range of hills to just over the Henne on Hennesee , immediately southwest of the core town of Meschedes .

mountains

The following mountains and elevations characterize the Lennegebirge, among others - sorted by height in meters (m) above sea level:

  • Homert ( 656.1  m ) - a good 2 km south-southeast of Meinkenbracht in the east of the Wildewiese-Homert

Waters

The west of the Lenne Mountains drains completely to the (middle) Lenne , whose valley borders the mountains to the west- south-west . To dehydrate Lenne (upstream, from south to north), in particular the southern border river Fretterbach and the Wildewiese-Homert and Schliprüther Homert in the west separating Falbecke besides Glingebachtalsperre (sub-basin of the pumped storage power plant Rönkhausen ).

The northern flank of the Lennegebirge drains, from west to east, the systems of Röhr (together with Sorpe with the Sorpesee north of the mountains ), Wenne (with Esmecke reservoir and Salwey with Marpe ) and Henne (with Hennesee ), with Salwey (border river between Wildewiese-Homert and Schliprüther Homert in the east) and Marpe (eastern boundary of the Schliprüther Homert ) also drain the southeast.
