Reservoirs flowed through Sorpesee (Sorpe Dam)

The Sorpe is a 18.6 km long, southwest and orographically left tributary of the Röhr in the Sauerland in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis ( Germany ).

course

The Sorpe rises in the Lennegebirge in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park . Its source is in Wildewiese , a small district of Sundern , on the western slope of the Schomberg ( 647.6  m above sea  level ). Initially, the Sorpe flows in a predominantly northward direction through the Sundern districts of Hagen , Allendorf and Amecke into the foreland of the Sorpesees ( Sorpe dam) . Shortly after flowing through the Sorpesees, after which the Sorpe runs through an approximately 100 m long canal , it flows into the Röhr approximately on the southern edge of the Sundern district of Hachen .

nature and environment

State of the Sorpe

For the management plan for the Water Framework Directive of the European Union (EU), the Sorpe was examined on behalf of the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MUNLV). The various aspects of the Sorpe were evaluated. The investigation was divided into two areas. One sub-area went from the source to the village of Allendorf and the other sub-area from there to the Sorpesees (Sorpe dam) . The course of the Sorpe below the dam was not investigated. The Sorpe in its entirety was classified as natural despite building structures in Hagen, Allendorf and Amecke, where the banks in particular were artificially fortified. The general degradation was rated as moderate up to Allendorf and as good below that. The Saprobie to Allendorf as well and from there very well considered. For macrozoobenthos (small organisms living on the bottom of the water) to Allendorf as moderate and below that as good. The fish fauna of the Röhr was only examined from Allendorf and classified as moderate. For macrophytes (aquatic plants visible to the naked eye that live under and on the surface of the water, including chandelier algae , mosses and ferns as well as seed plants such as spawning herbs) to Allendorf as good and from there on as very good. For phytobenthos (plants living on the bottom of the water, mainly algae) as good from Allendorf, above the village as moderate. With regard to the pollution of the Sorpe with nitrate , metals and other substances possibly polluting the water, it was classified as probably good, good to very good. Because of the construction in the localities, the ecological condition and the potential for improvement were classified as moderate. The chemical condition of the Sorpe was rated as good along the entire course of the river.

In June 2018, a year-round grazing project with Dexter cattle started in the Langen Erlen area in the area where the Sorpe meets the tube . In previous years, the canal-like estuary was renatured on 20 hectares. 11 hectares of the renaturation area were divided into three pasture areas and 1,400 fence posts were placed.

Protected areas

Outside the Sundern districts of Hagen, Allendorf and Amecke, the Sorpe flows through several landscape protection areas . The Sorpe flows into the Röhr in the Sorpewiesen Lange Erlen nature reserve .

Birds

So far, kingfisher , dipper , gray wagtail and mallard have been identified as breeding birds on the Sorpe . Herons and black storks appear as food guests .
