Macrophytes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Macrophytes are plants that are visible to the naked eye as a single specimen due to their size. In the broadest sense, there are all Streptophyta . The term macrophytes is mostly used in connection with limnic ecosystems and is then applied to the aquatic plants . These include the higher aquatic plants and the candelabrum algae. In the narrower sense, only aquatic macrophytes, i.e. those living submerged (submerged), are counted as aquatic plants, and in a broader sense also those that only root below the water level. In contrast to macrophytes, microphytes are plants that are only visible under a magnifying glass or microscope.
