The Salwey , sometimes also called Salweybach , is a 14.8 km long left tributary of the Wenne in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany . The stream flows in the east of the Olpe district and in the western Hochsauerland district .
geography
The Salwey rises from the Salwey spring southwest of Weuspert on the northeast flank of the 549.3 m high Sterlberg at an altitude of 497 m above sea level. NHN . Flowing primarily to the east-northeast, the Salwey flows through the villages of Obersalwey , Niedersalwey , Sieperting , Niedereslohe and Sallinghausen , around 1 km east at 284 m above sea level. NHN flows into the Wenne on the left .
The difference in altitude on its 14.8 km long path is 213 m, which corresponds to an average bed gradient of 14.4 ‰. The Salwey drains a 67.939 km² catchment area via Wenne, Ruhr and Rhine to the North Sea .
Tributaries
Numerous, sometimes very short, streams flow to the Salwey from the slopes of the surrounding heights. The most important tributary is the 10.4 km long Esselbach . After flowing through Eslohe , this stream flowing in from the south flows into Niedereslohe. With a catchment area of 26.633 km², it accounts for about 4/10 of that of the Salwey. With a length of 9.1 km and a catchment area of 15.720 km², the Marpe is also worth mentioning. nature and environment
Protected areas
The course of the Salwey in the Eslohe municipality is mostly designated as a type C landscape protection area (meadow valleys and significant extensive grassland) outside of the localities. These are the Salwey landscape protection area from the west of Ketten Wulf to Sallinghausen with the mouth of the Esselbach and the Salwey landscape protection area from the planning area boundary at Schliprüthener Mühle to the east of Sieperting . The lower course shortly after Sallinghausen is part of the Wennetal nature reserve and has also been designated as a FFH area Wenne.
Breeding birds
So far, kingfisher , dipper , gray wagtail and mallard have been identified as breeding birds on the Salwey . Herons and black storks appear as food guests .
