Rönkhausen is a place in the municipality of Finnentrop with around 1700 inhabitants. It is located on the Lenne , in the southern part of the Sauerland ; on the B 236 between Altena and Lennestadt . The neighboring towns are Pasel in the west and Lenhausen in the east.
In terms of the church, Rönkhausen belongs to the Archdiocese of Paderborn (historically to the archbishopric of Cologne until the 19th century ), the patron saint of the place is St. Anthony the Hermit . The parish belongs to the pastoral network Bigge-Lenne-Fretter-Tal ; the centrally located parish church characterizes the townscape. It was built from 1923 to 1924. The mighty onion dome and the last yoke were added in 1939.
history
The place is historically mentioned for the first time in writing in a property register of the Benedictine Abbey of Deutz , which was created in 1160.
The origin of Rönkhausen is in all likelihood already in the 9th century, since for places in the Sauerland, which end in " -inghausen ", a time of origin around 850-900 is generally assumed. These place names were formed from first names. There was probably a man called Rocco (see Rochus ) in today's Rönkhausen , who was wealthy at this point in the Lennetal.
In a more recent analysis of the place names in the district of Olpe, the influence of the person "Rocco" on the formation of the place name is confirmed. Flöer interprets the name as a place name "near the houses of the people of Rocco".
Early clues about the size of Rönkhausen can be found in the appraisal register from 1543, which was used to collect taxes. According to this, there were 18 people in Roenckhaußen (Rönkhausen) at the time (excluding three people who were classified as poor). This number should have roughly agreed with the existing families or houses.
The place name varied through the centuries:
- 1160 Rokinchusen (first mention in the farm list of the Deutz monastery)
- 1223 Rockinhusin or Roggenchusen (Schneider, Die Orte der Provinz Westfalen, Münster 1936)
- 1347 Rockenhusen (Historical Archive of the City of Cologne)
- 1370 Rocginchusen (North Rhine-Westphalia State Archives Münster , inventory of Grafschaft Monastery )
- 1492 Roynkussen (Hovestadt Archives)
- 1536 Roenckhuißen ( Treasury register in the State Archives, Arnsberg)
- 1543 Roenckhaußen (treasury register)
- 1565 Roenghausen (Treasury register in the State Archives, Arnsberg)
- 1620 Hoinckhusen (map of the Duchy of Westphalia von Gigas). The H at the beginning is likely to be confused.
- 1663 Rönnkhusen (map of the Duchy of Westphalia von Seutter)
- 1821 Rönnckhausen (Werner Spielmann collection of documents, Rönkhausen: Recession on the division of the Rönkhauser Mark from 1821)
- today Rönkhausen
The Rönkhausen pumped storage plant is located in Rönkhausen- Glinge .
