Culture, sights
- In the Fretter bone mill , you can see on selected days of the year how animal bones were ground with pure water power over 100 years ago. The stamping mill of the “Californian Poche” type comes from an ironworks and is thus the last preserved stamping mill in North Rhine-Westphalia and the oldest example of this type in Germany (around 1860). The bone mill was entered in the list of monuments of the municipality of Finnentrop in 1987 under A26.
- The "Ruhrmanns Teich" lies between a forest and the Fretterbach .
- Thanks to its central location in the Frettertal, Fretter is located on many hiking trails and also in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park .
- In the district there are slate - roofed half - timbered houses , often with Low German inscriptions. They are witnesses to the past.
- Shooting festival on the Sunday after Jakobus (usually the last weekend in July).
- old castle ruins on the outskirts.
- In July 2013 a radio play was published about the village, which refers, among other things, to the wood processing industry and the neighboring villages of Deutmecke and Ostentrop .
St. Matthias Church
After the old chapel , which is documented from 1509 onwards, became too small due to the continued increase in the number of inhabitants, it was demolished in 1929.
The construction of today's church began in 1926, so that the foundation stone could be laid on May 1, 1927. On June 29, 1933, on Peter and Paul Day, Paderborn Archbishop Dr. Caspar Klein presented the solemn consecration. The organ was damaged in the chaos of the Second World War and was repaired in 1946 by the organ building company Stockmann from Werl .
