Hannes Pingsmann , partly also listed as Hans Pingsmann (born March 18, 1894 in Essen - Rüttenscheid , † September 27, 1955 in Essen) was a German painter and graphic artist.
Career
After the First World War , the primary school teacher Pingsmann found an interest in art. Despite his brief studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Essen (which later became known as the Folkwangschule ) and the Düsseldorf Art Academy , he insisted on having completed his artistic development as a "blatant autodidact ". With great enthusiasm for experimentation, he became familiar with many techniques, but from 1919 he developed a particular preference for etching and drypoint . From 1928 onwards, extensive cycles of illustrations for works of literature, etc. a. Rainer Maria Rilke's way of love and death of the cornet Christoph Rilke , Friedrich Hebbels Judith , Charles de Costers Ulenspiegel , Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen's Simplicissimus , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Faust and Edda . He also went on study trips to Flanders, France, Spain and Italy.
Through their local poet friend Hermann Hagedorn , the family first came to Fretter , today a part of Finnentrop , during the holiday season , bought a house there in 1940, and when Essen was bombed, his wife and four daughters moved there. In this way, Antonie Pingsmann managed to save a large part of the graphic work and a considerable number of the erasure plates from destruction. In 1945, after his discharge from the Wehrmacht , Pingsmann followed his family to Fretter and lived there until his death in 1955. He also found numerous motifs for his work in the area.
