Local situation

Ostentrop is located on the section of Kreisstraße 30 that leads from Fretter to Schönholthausen .

history

The village of Ostentrop was mentioned for the first time in a document in 1285. Accordingly, Reynerus de Ostendorpe has a mansus (estate) in Ostendorpe from Count Ludwig von Arnsberg . Several farm names are known from the 15th century: Leibelen Hof, Diekhof, Wedemhof, Westenhof and Eckhof, Hof Mollenbecke, Krabbenhof, Overnhof, Schürten Gut, Hollengut and various Kottenstätten .

The oldest references to a chapel in Ostentrop come from the year 1368. In that year Gerhart van Elspe , pastor of Sconholthusen, vowed to Rotgher van Osterendorp that he and his successors would take part in all church consecrations and main festivals as well as once every month, a total of 17 times in the year you want to read mass in the chapel at Osterendorp .

An estimate register from 1543 provides an early indication of the size of Ostentrop ; it names 15 people liable to treasure for Oistendorf . Assuming that each taxpayer had a family of around six, around 1550 around 80 to 100 people should have lived in Ostentrop.

economy

Until the beginning of the 20th century, Ostentrop was dominated exclusively by agriculture. Handicraft professions served to supply the citizens with essential goods such as clothing and fabrics as well as the manufacture of equipment for the management of the house and yard. According to a listing of the pastor and local historian Franz Rinschen there was during the period 1807-1880 in Ostentrop eleven Schuster, six tailor or dressmaker, five Leineweber , three blacksmiths, three fitters, two master mason, two shepherds and each one car maker, dyer , Button maker, innkeeper, rag picker and others.

Today the community of Finnentrop with the existing industry and the sawmills and woodworks located in the Frettertal offer employment opportunities for the residents.

Club life

A lively club life is evident in the ten or so local clubs, some of which are run in cooperation with the neighboring town of Schönholthausen . In addition to the traditional associations, the theater association founded in 1979 and the women's choir fun and joy, which has existed since 2001, have also successfully established themselves in the cultural field .

Religion - church

St. Lucia

The majority of the Ostentropian residents profess the Catholic faith . The church consecrated to Saint Lucia was inaugurated in 1952 after two years of construction. Financing and construction were carried out in-house, with a lack of money repeatedly leading to compromises in the construction plans. The reason for the construction of its own church was the fact that the Schönholthauser Church of St. Mary's Assumption had become too cramped, and the village of Ostentrop still belongs to the parish of this church .
