Fehrenbracht is a district of the municipality of Finnentrop in North Rhine-Westphalia in the southern part of the Sauerland with around 40 inhabitants.

geography

The village is located at the northern tip of the district of Olpe between the mountain ranges of the Ebbegebirge in the southwest and the Homert in the northeast. The district road 23 leads through the village and the Fretterbach flows . Neighboring towns are Schliprüthen and Serkenrode .

history

The village originally belonged to the Eslohe parish , which was founded in the first half of the 9th century. Later the place came to the parish Schliprüthen. At that time, the surrounding villages of Fehrenbracht, Serkenrode and Dormecke already had chapels that were attested to before 1300.

On January 16, 1911, the Finnentrop – Wennemen railway was put into operation. With the construction of the line, the small town got a train station that was manned by two officers every day. The arrival of the first passenger train in Fehrenbracht (then still Bracht) caused a crowd. Then 16 trains came through the town every day. Rail traffic declined after the Second World War. The last passenger train from Finnentrop to Wennemen ran on May 21, 1966. The line was stopped four months later.

With the law on the reorganization of the district of Olpe of June 18, 1969, the municipality of Schliprüthen with the place Fehrenbracht and the municipality of Schönholthausen from the office of Serkenrode from the district of Meschede were merged to form the new municipality of Finnentrop on July 1, 1969 and incorporated into the district of Olpe.

At the beginning of 1976 the rails between Serkenrode and Eslohe were dismantled. The Fehrenbracht station was demolished and the 689 m long Kückelheim tunnel adjacent to the station was bricked up. In 1995 the community of Finnentrop took the initiative and built a cycle path from the Fehrenbracht tunnel to Lenhausen as far as possible on the railway line. The route is part of the Sauerland cycle ring .

The Premonstratensian, teacher and Jacobin Friedrich Georg Pape was born on July 3, 1763 in Fehrenbracht.
