Bausenrode is a hamlet in the municipality of Finnentrop in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia in the southern part of the Sauerland with around 20 inhabitants.

history

The beginnings of the hamlet are likely to have been in the late Carolingian period around 900. The very small settlement was later abandoned. Resettlement followed much later. A Herbord from the family of the Bailiffs von Elspe took his seat in Bausenrode around 1300. It was allodial property of the bailiffs. The last noble representative of the line was Hermann von Bausenrode in the middle of the 15th century. Because this one married servant , the son Evert was not considered a nobleman. In order not to let the property fall back to the bailiffs of Elspe, he sold it to Johann von Schnellenberg and took it back for lease.

Until modern times the hamlet had no more than three residential buildings. These were in particular the Hermeshof and the Schultenhof . Bausenrode was closely associated with Fretter in many ways . The later field of Bausenhagen belonged to the Frettermark. The farms in Bausenhagen received their shares in the Mark. Both yards were considered full tension yards . The mark was divided around 1650 and the farms in Bausenrode got parts of the Weusper forest. Further brand shares were later lost.

Bausenrode was also part of Fretter in terms of administration. A growth of the hamlet was prevented by settlement restrictions, as in Fretter. It was not until the 18th century that the Hermeshof's Spieker and Backhaus were converted into residential buildings.

There is a chapel in the hamlet. This is consecrated to the Three Wise Men and dates from the time of the re-establishment from around 1300.
