History of the mill

Houses of the Frettermühle

The Frettermühle has probably always been a flour mill that was managed by tenants during the time of aristocratic property. It is not known whether this mill was a so-called "ban mill", for which mill was compulsory .

In connection with the second mention of the place Bamenohl , the Frettermühle is reported for the first time. Translated excerpt from the document of October 13, 1362:

“Let it be known to all who see or hear this letter read: We Wiedekin [and] Johan and Wilhelm [,] Johan [and] Herman [,] brothers von Hundem , called Pepersäcke , children of two brothers, [have] with good Will Luitgards and Cunigundes, our mothers, Beleken, Greteken, Hilleken and Beleken our sisters, and on with all of our right heirs, all and hereditary given and give in this? Letter? the Kotten on the born zu Oberbamenohl with all its accessories, and on hand ... hereditary in line with the market at our mill in the Fretter, which mill we still have undivided, [...] "

Heygen family (Heggen)

February 10, 1393 Heidenreich von Heiden (Heygen - Heggen ) hands over, with the consent of his wife Bele (Beleke von Hundem, heiress Bamenohls), his son Widekin a Malter rye from the mill called "up the cousin" Heidolves mill, for the consolation of his soul and that of his late wife Ludgart. ...

October 16, 1403 Heinrich von Heygen (Heggen) zu Bamenohl, with the consent of Beles (Beleke von Hundem), his wife and son Wydekind from the Heidelfsmühle zu Fretter, hands over 1/2 Malter rye annually to the church lords of Schönholthausen and his chaplains at the Petri chair celebration to a memorial for himself and his wife Ludgart and all their ancestors ...

January 2nd, 1419 Wedekind von Heygen (Heggen) and his wife Katharina sell, with the will of their daughters Belekin, Engele and Katharina, to Mr. Johann Scheper von Weidersikussen (Weltringhausen?) Or the owner of the letter a gulde of 1 Malter rye from their Heidolfsmühle in Fretter .. .

Obviously the von Hundem called Pepersack, in 1454 were still or again owners / co-owners of the Frettermühle. Translated excerpt from the document dated December 12, 1454:

“Wilhelm and Hermann, the Pepersack Brothers gt. Von Hundem, and Hermann's wife Grete state that according to the marriage agreement between Johann v. Bonslade (Bonzel) gt. Dramme and Katharina, daughter of Hermann and his wife to furnish their daughter with clothes. Since they are unable to do this, Hermann and his wife as well as Wilhelm cede their share of the Bamenohl house , as well as the mill in the Vreten. Middle: Tonys Schade, Richter zu Attendorn, Dietrich v. Bonslede gt. Grube, Gobel Bitter. Siegler: exhibitor and Anton Schade, judge. "

Von Plettenberg family

After the von Hundem, the von Plettenbergs became the heirs of those from Heggen (Heygen) to Bamenohl. At a testimony on August 28, 1518, the ninety-year-old Heyman Moelner from Werlynchusen ( Weringhausen ) stated , “He had leased Heydelues mill on the Fretter for 53 years. Half would have been owned by von Plettenberg because of von Heygen (Heggen) zu Babenoell (Bamenohl), the other half by Herman van dem Nyggenhoeve ( Neuenhof ) as heir to the Pepersäcke zu Babenoell. "

Those present at this interrogation: Jurgen von Plettenberg ( Lenhausen ) and the brothers Guntermann and Ulrich von Plettenberg (Bamenohl). The term Heydelues Mühle first appears in a document in 1393 as Heidolves Mühle.

On March 6, 1566, Hermann and Arnd von Plettenberg split up the inheritance that had come to them from their parents Ulrich von Plettenberg and Katharina von Thülen . Hermann receives the Bamenohl house with the mill. Since there is no evidence of a mill in Bamenohl at any time and the Grevenmühle (near Grevenbrück ) was owned by the bailiffs of Elspe , it can only be the Frettermühle. The mills in Elspe and Röllecken , which also belong to the Bamenohl family , were not acquired until 1573 and 1600 respectively.

Modern times

Mill wheel

Due to multiple changes of ownership, there is no related documentation. According to the current owners, the mill has been in the family since 1784. From that time until 1983 grain was ground in the water mill with an overshot water wheel . Today it is used for the environmentally friendly generation of electricity, but it can also still be used as a flour mill. For many years the owners ran a small mill cafe in the "Alte Mühle". This has been closed since September 2017.

Since June 16, 1999 the mill has been entered in the list of architectural monuments of the municipality of Finnentrop .
