Frielentrop [ ˈfʀiːlən.tʀɔp ] is located in the valley of the Lenne and is a district of Finnentrop . The place has around 30 inhabitants and is a bit off the stretch of the federal highway 236 that connects Finnentrop with Lenhausen . The Ruhr-Sieg railway line also runs directly past Frielentrop .

The small town of Frielentrop emerged from an estate with neighboring settlements. The first known mention of the property comes from a document dated March 12, 1179 by Archbishop Philip of Cologne , in which a Gerbertus de U (V) rilincthorpe is mentioned as a witness.

The St. Nikolaus Chapel , which is a listed building , is part of Gut Frielentrop . The ownership and ownership of the chapel have changed repeatedly in the past. A visitation report from 1624 states that, in the opinion of the parishioners, the nobleman vom Ohle is responsible for repairs. Another visitation report from 1799 indicates that the chapel in Frielentrop, belonging to the Count of Plettenberg , should be equipped with an altar and church equipment. At the request of Count von Plettenberg, the Archbishop of Paderborn ordered the consecration of the church, which had been restored, in 1865 with the stipulation that a St. Mass can be celebrated. After an eventful history, the chapel and the property have been privately owned since 1964. The current owner carried out extensive renovations in 1992 and installed an electronic bell, which today again announces the " Angel of the Lord " at certain times of the day .

The industrial area Finnentrop-Frielentrop joins above the Frielentrop estate, separated by a moat that directs the water diverted from the Lenne to the Lenhausen run-of-river power station . The origins of the industrial area go back to the year 1962, when the community Schönholthausen (now part of Finnentrop) acquired a storage property of approx. 160 hectares from the Frielentrop estate. A major development measure in 1978 was the connection to the federal highway 236 with the construction of a bridge over railroad tracks and the Lenne. As part of further property purchases and swaps, commercial areas of currently 41 hectares were created in three sections. The industrial park extends over a length of approx. 2 to 3 kilometers to the outskirts of Finnentrop . In addition to a meat factory, around 25 companies, in particular from the iron, plastic and wood processing and processing sectors, have set up shop there. The companies Eibach Federn and Metten Fleischwaren are known nationwide .
