William A. Graham (Director)

William A. Graham (born May 15, 1926 in New York City , † September 12, 2013 in Malibu , California ) was an American film director and film producer , who was best known for his movies, including Waterhole No. 3 , diving trip to hell , a heavenly vertigo , where the lilies bloom or return to the blue lagoon .

life and career

William A. Graham, born in New York City in 1926, first served in the Navy before studying at Yale University . After graduating from Yale, he studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York before starting to direct television in the mid-1950s. Graham directed well over 100 films in his career, including feature films, television films, episodes of series and TV miniseries. In 1967 he was nominated for the DGA Award in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television category for the "CBS Playhouse" production for the episode Sadbird . In 1980 he received another nomination, this time for an Emmy for the production The Guiana Massacre for Outstanding Directing in a Limited Series or a Special .

Between 1956 and 2001 he directed numerous episodes of popular American TV series with continuous diligence and a remarkable discipline, in western, drama, crime, adventure or spy antagonism among others in: Kein Fall für FBI (1960 ), Dr. Kildare (1962–1963), The People of Shiloh Ranch (1962–1971), Merciless City (1961–1963), Crooks Against Crooks (1964), FBI (1965), On the Run (1963–1965), Batman ( 1966), Race against Death (1966), Medical Center (1969), Police Story (1973), Aircraft Carrier USS Georgetown (1988), True Blue (1989), The X-Files - The FBI's Scary Cases (1993–1998) , Seven Days - Das Tor zur Zeit (2000) or The Fugitive (2001)

He made his film debut in 1967 with the Western Water Hole No. 3 with James Coburn in the leading role. In 1969 he made the film A Heavenly Vertigo with the rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley . He made his last cinema production at the age of 65 in 1991, where he appeared in the erotic drama Return to the Blue Lagoon with Brian Krause and Milla Jovovich in the leading roles as both producer and director in two roles. With the television film Blood Crime - Cop under suspicion with James Caan , he ended his almost 50-year career as a director in 2002.

William A. Graham died on September 12, 2013 at the age of 87 in Malibu of complications from pneumonia . A longtime resident of Malibu, Graham was also an avid sailor.
