action

The widow Sarah Hargrave and her daughter Lilli travel on a ship in the Victorian Age . A small boy (he is called Richard by the widow) is found with his dead parents on a rowing boat. Because cholera breaks out on the ship , the widow is abandoned with the two children and a sailor on a rowboat. After the sailor wants to kill the children and Sarah kills them in self-defense , they are stranded on an island. They discover Richard's parents' hut. There Sarah raises her daughter and Richard and teaches them based on the Bible .

Sarah gets sick and suspects that she will soon die. She instructs Lilli and Richard to dig a grave on a hill and build a cross, and explains how she will be buried. A little later she dies. The children get older and discover love. A ship is coming; the captain's daughter, Sylvia Hilliard, wants to win Richard over. She tries to prepare Lilli and Richard for civilization. While Richard and Sylvia are fishing, Lilli is harassed by one of the sailors, who is after their white pearl that Richard once gave her for Easter . Richard rushes to her aid after an argument with Sylvia, and the sailor is killed by a shark while chasing Richard . Lilli reveals to Richard that she is pregnant, and the two decide to stay on the island. In the credits you see her playing with her daughter on the beach.

Reviews

"Just as listless as it is boringly staged, the film primarily relies on postcard stimuli and criminally neglects the management of the plot and the actors. A dramaturgical concept can hardly be recognized in this simple-minded copy of a successful film. "
