Eva Bergh (born February 25, 1926 in Kolbotn , Akershus Province , † February 19, 2013 ) was a Norwegian actress .

Life

Bergh made her debut in 1949 as a stage actress at the Det Nye Theater in Oslo . There she was a permanent member of the ensemble until 1957. In 1957 she went to the Den Nationale Scene theater in Bergen . There she remained a permanent member until her stage farewell.

Bergh played a wide repertoire on stage, which included plays by William Shakespeare , the authors of the Classical and Romantic periods , but especially the leading roles in the plays of Ludvig Holberg . Her stage roles included Andrée in Landet uten vei ( Fire on Earth ; French original title: Le Feu sur la terre ) by Francois Mauriac , Queen Elisabeth I in Maria Stuart and Portia in The Merchant of Venice (1969; Den Nationale Scene) . She also took on the role of mother in the play Anne Persdotter by Hans Wiers-Jenssen .

Bergh also appeared as an actress in musicals . She was the first actress in Norway to play the role of Eliza Doolittle in the musical My fair Lady (1963). Bergh's other musical roles were Lilli Vanessi / Katherine in Kiss Me, Kate , the title role Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly! and Golde, the wife of the milkman Tevje, in Anatevka .

Bergh also took on numerous film roles in Norwegian and also foreign, European films. She made her film debut in 1949 in the Norwegian feature film Døden er et kjærtegn . She had another film role in 1951, directed by Arne Mattsson , alongside Victor Sjöström as Vera in the Swedish drama You shall not desire . In the British crime thriller Perjury (1953), she played the role of Ilse, a traumatized refugee girl from the Second World War , who fell in love with the male protagonist Davidson, who saves her , after being raped by a sailor. Her partner in this film noir was John Mills . In 1960 she was Edna Gran in the Norwegian crime film The Battle of the Eagle Rock . The film was at the 1960 International Film Festival in Berlin in Berlin shown. In 2004, after more than 30 years of abstinence from the film business, she made her screen comeback in the film comedy Salto, salmiakk og kaffe .

In 1999 she was awarded the Norwegian Royal Merit Medal (Kongens fortjenstmedalje) for her artistic merits.

Bergh was married to the Norwegian composer , pianist and conductor Sverre Bergh (1915–1980).
