action

In 1955, Donald Campbell plans to set a new world speed record on the water on Lake Mead . Again he wants to go faster than 200 miles per hour by boat. Another driver had already attempted this record but was killed in the process. Campbell's love of speed runs in the family, as his father Malcolm Campbell set a speed record in an automobile.

Various tests are carried out on the Bluebird boat on Lake Mead, and some test runs have to be canceled. Another attempt is successful, but the rules require Campbell to complete two trips with a record for the record to be recognized. However, it is already too dark for the return trip. The next day the record run had to be canceled as strong winds came up and the water surface was too restless. Finally, however, the perfect day has come and Campbell manages the record run: on the round trip, he is on average 216.2 mph.
