Jean Poiret (born August 17, 1926 in Paris as Jean Poiré , † March 14, 1992 ibid) was a French actor, director and author.

life and career

The original stage actor Poiret began his film career together with his friend Michel Serrault . Both became preferred actors for director Jean-Pierre Mocky . As a film actor, Poiret took part in almost 70 cinema and TV productions; his outstanding film roles include appearances and a. in François Truffaut's The Last Metro and as Inspector Lavardin in several films by Claude Chabrol (including chicken in vinegar ) .

Poiret also made a name for himself as a playwright and director. A cage full of fools , 1973 (La cage aux folles) ran more than 900 times under his direction at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal in Paris and later became a global success in the film of the same name by Édouard Molinaro . As a film director, Poiret u. a. the comedy The Zebra with his wife Caroline Cellier in the lead role.
