Georges Lautner (1966)

Georges Lautner (born January 24, 1926 in Nice , † November 22, 2013 in Paris ) was a French film and television director, a specialist in action-packed gangster and crime films as well as turbulent comedies.

Live and act

Lautner attended the Parisian Lycée Janson de Sailly and studied political science at the university and later also law. As the son of actress Renée Saint-Cyr , Lautner came into contact with film from an early age. At the side of his mother, he took on his first film role in 1950 in the melodramatic espionage and revenge material The Emperor's Courier ( Fusillé à l'aube ). His main occupation during these years (until 1953) was assistant director. Lautner was then responsible for directing three short films. Georges Lautner has directed full-length feature films since 1958, and in the 1960s and 1970s in particular, the director was one of the most commercially successful filmmakers in his country. He never received artistic recognition, however, as he always subordinated his often flavourful films to his stars.

His career began with films with Bernard Blier as the protagonist ( Arrêtez les tambours , 1960; Also Heroes Want To Die , 1960, with Juliette Mayniel ; The Black Monocle , 1961, with Marie Dubois , The Seventh Juror , with Danièle Delorme ). In 1964 he staged radishes from below with Louis de Funès . He continued the monocle series with Paul Meurisse with two more films. The film drama The Road to Salina with Mimsy Farmer and Rita Hayworth was a success . Numerous comedies and thrillers since the 1970s, mostly with Alain Delon ( Ice Cold as Silence , The Serrano Case ) and Jean-Paul Belmondo ( The Greyhound , The Professional ). In the 1980s, his earlier work was followed by flat and critically- slated films such as Happy Easter (with Belmondo), A Cage Full of Fools III and A Man Knows Too Much (with Michael Brandon and Robert Mitchum ). With The Eerie House based on the novel by Georges Simenon, Lautner helped Belmondo to play a major role in old age in 1992. In 2000 he directed the episode Das Bistro in drug scenes .
