Paul Meurisse

Paul Gustave Pierre Meurisse (born December 21, 1912 in Dunkirk , Nord-Pas-de-Calais , † January 19, 1979 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , Île-de-France ) was a French actor .

Life

Paul Meurisse grew up in Corsica and was initially a notary's assistant in Aix-en-Provence . He then went to Paris and played there as a singer. In 1939 he met Édith Piaf , who brought him together with Jean Cocteau . He got a bigger role in Montmartre-sur-Seine in 1941 with Piaf as the leading actress. As a result, he developed into an important character actor of the post-war period. The film classics include Die Teuflischen ( American remake Diabolisch 1996) and Breakfast in the Green .

In the 1960s, the French crime film had a large audience in Germany too, and Meurisse was one of the main actors. He wasn't the positive hero like Jean Marais or the black one like Robert Hossein or later Alain Delon . He gave his roles a weird touch without stunts and is to be mentioned in the same breath as Bernard Blier or later Pierre Richard . He embodied the character of Le Monocle in the film series of the same name.
