Be sworn Raunach has on 25 April 1551. As in 1574, the city parish in Salzburg had become clear there was to take over the site of two candidates: Balthasar of Raunach and Johann Ertl. Raunach was initially entrusted with the administration of the office. Ertl, with whom the chapter was negotiating in this regard, turned down the position, which suited the canons , who were reluctant to entrust the position to a stranger. At the request of the chapter, Raunach administered the pastorate for two more years.

At the first scrutinium (collecting and checking the votes in a Catholic church election), the candidates received the same number of votes. In the subsequent oral election, Raunach received the majority of the votes and was now Salzburg Cathedral Provost.
