action
Antoine Beretto runs a boat rental business on the Côte d'Azur and leads a decent life. But this was not always the case, because he used to be a gangster. Beretto has sworn off the crime, but Antoine catches up with his past when two old colleagues track him down and insistently ask him for a boat and a loan of 40,000 francs which he can later get back from the bookmaker Léonard Michalon in Nice. With the help of his friend Jeff, Antoine finds Michalon, stupidly he is forced to shoot a burglar in his house. In doing so, he gets in the way of a group of British criminals who are targeting Michalon and consequently also targeting Antoine. This now forces Beretto to take measures outside the law again.
criticism
- The lexicon of international films found: "Grotesque crime comedy with amusing dialogues and surprising gags."
- Prisma found: "The excellent crime parody with witty gags and lively dialogues by Georges Lautner was the third collaboration between the director and his main actor Lino Ventura, who had previously appeared in the genre comedies" Mordrezepte der Barbouzes "(1964) and" Mein Unkel, der Gangster " (1963) stood in front of the camera for Lautner. Besides Ventura, Jean Lefebvre and Michel Constantin are particularly convincing as his old buddies Jeff and Michalon. "
- The film magazine Cinema wrote: “France vs. England: explosive but fun ”.
- The Protestant film observer drew the following conclusion: “Gangster war on the Riviera. Thanks to the dry dialogues from Michel Audiard and thanks to the good-humored actors (Lino Ventura in particular), director Georges Lautner managed to have a quick and mostly reasonably logical fun. From 16. "
