Maurice Fellous

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maurice Fellous (born August 20, 1925 in Paris , † April 26, 2015 in Paris) was a French cameraman and one of the most sought-after visual designers of the successful domestic and commercial cinema of the 1960s and 1970s.

Live and act

Maurice Fellous had received his training at the IDHEC film school and started filming in 1946 as a camera assistant. In the 1950s he mostly worked as a simple cameraman under the direction of his older brother Roger Fellous and in 1958 became chief cameraman himself.

Since 1961 he has been filming primarily under the direction of Georges Lautner , for whom he photographed most of his comedies and crime films. In addition to Lautner, the specialist in judicial dramas, André Cayatte , used the technical skills of Fellous for his works (No smoke without fire, everyone their hell) . Fellous photographed virtually all the top stars of French entertainment cinema of those years, including Jean Gabin , Lino Ventura , Alain Delon , Louis de Funès , Pierre Richard and again and again Mireille Darc , but also a number of foreign artists such as Hardy Krüger , Rita Hayworth and Sabine Sinjen and Horst Frank .

In the course of the late 1970s, Fellous' work flattened out massively, and he only photographed B-goods that were hardly noticed. Since the 1980s, Maurice Fellous has been mainly active in television, for which he photographed the French-German series joint production The Secrets of Paris . In 2001 he retired.

Maurice Fellous died on April 26, 2015 at the age of 89 in his home in Jouars-Pontchartrain near Paris.
