Fellous had initially worked in handicrafts before he gained his first camera experience as an assistant to established cameramen such as Curt Courant , Armand Thirard and Michel Kelber shortly before the start of the Second World War . Until 1952 he worked as a simple cameraman, with Le témoin de minuit he started in the same year as chief cameraman.
In addition to a large number of mediocre productions for a mass audience, Fellous also photographed a few higher-class films, especially in the early 1960s, including productions by André Cayatte ( Beyond the Rhine, At the end of all ways, My days with Pierre / My nights with Jacqueline ), Luis Buñuel ( diary of a maid ) and Julien Duvivier ( The Devil and the Ten Commandments ).
In 1964, Fellous retired from his profession for a short time and worked on improving camera technology. His first invention was a special zoom lens ('Suprématic') for the 'Franscope' system common in France.
Since the end of the 1960s, Fellous was in danger of gambling away the reputation he had earned by shooting almost exclusively tons of slippery and disreputable sex films for the next decade and a half. In between he shot Fernandel's last movie, the old-fashioned comedy His last friend .
After largely turning away from cinema in the early 80s, Roger Fellous switched to television. His brother Maurice Fellous also worked as a cameraman.
